As I sit and contemplated my own journey in starting and now managing my own successful small business I realised that the journey has been filled with excitement, determination and a huge amount of learning and the journey is only really now beginning.
There have been people along the way that have supported and helped me However, ultimately it has come down to me having a goal and surrounding myself with the necessary tools, skills and people who can help me achieve this goal.
I believe the following 5 drivers were critical for success:
  1. Ensuring I had a clear strategy of where I wanted to go. What exactly was it that I wanted to offer and what did I want to achieve? What are the product / service we were offering?
    Functional Business Solutions provides small business with practical solutions & tools to minimise their Bookkeeping, Administration and Payroll requirements at an affordable price tailored to their needs.
     

  2. Having the necessary EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & REGISTRATIONS / LICENCES to do what we do.
    As a registered BAS agent and a registered member of professional associations we are required to be appropriately qualified and keep up to date with professional development; be fit and proper and have professional indemnity insurance
     
  3. Identifying our CLIENTS NEEDS. Once we understood what it was that clients wanted we were able to define our products.
    We understand that no two clients are the same and that all small businesses have to manage costs.  With this in mind we first understand what it is that you as the client want / need and we then implement a package for a monthly fixed fee.
     

  4. Making sure that the team we have in place for the business aspire to our values and that they put the client’s needs above all else.An important element was having a happy team.
    The values we aspire to are:  Providing Functional Business Solutions that meet the client’s needs with tools that ensure control, order and structure of their business
     

  5. Implementing an easy to manage ADMIN SYSTEM that provides me with the necessary information to make decisions on a daily basis.
    Like other businesses we are so focused on our clients and their needs we do not stop and consider our own admin systems.  For this reason we treat our business as another client and ensure we have the necessary bookkeeping, admin and payroll in place for it.
